England Deaf Football Plate
Cup Semi-Final Saturday 16th April

Barnet DFC v Fulham DFC

On this occasion, FDFC had only eleven
available players, including the Gaffer for the trip to The Hive, the training
ground of Barnet FC.

With eleven players available, the
line-up remained a straightforward selection, with a back four of Vorster,
Rumney, Harding and the Gaffer sitting in front of goalkeeper Kemp. Gill,
Lampert, Bovino and Gregory were put in midfield, charged with providing
support to Moore and Speedster Willis up front.

The Whites started the brighter, playing some
decent football in the first twenty minutes as Barnet stood off and attempted
to absorb the pressure. After a number of attempts, Speedster Willis finally
found the back of the net and Lampert hit the second directly from a corner.
Barnet soon got back into the game, pulling the score back to 2-1, despite the
goal coming from an offside position. The Whites soon restored their lead
through Gregory’s excellent free kick from 25 yards. However, after this fine
free kick, the game changed in Barnet’s favour the Whites became too casual
with the ball and proceeded to lose possession too easily, which was

In the second half, Barnet showed
their never-say-die qualities with two headed goals, both supplied by Umesh
Valjee, to bring the score back up to 3 – 3. Then Willis hit back with a goal for the Whites to
make it 4-3, only to see the Bees equalise to make it 4 – 4. After this big
wake-up call, both Willis and Gregory hit two fine strikes to make it 6-4 and
finally take the sting out of the Bee’s performance.

The Gaffer praised Barnet’s effort and
their never-say-die spirit, and congratulated them on their improvement under
manager Ossie Kelman. Both the Gaffer and his right hand man ‘Mad Max’ Willis
agreed that Gregory deserved the man of the match award for his tireless
performance, capped off by two fine goals.

Now Fulham Deaf will take on Charlton
Deaf in the final of the English Deaf Plate Cup which will be held at
Bromsgrove FC on Saturday 14th May 2011, kicking off at 11am.
