Saturday 9th April
SSEC Intermediate Division Two

Fulham DFC v Ashtead FC

On a bright day in Motspur Park, the
Whites repeated the same scoreline as in the opening fixture between the two
sides earlier on in the season. The 9-1 result did not wholly reflect the
pattern of the game, as Ashtead deserved to get more goals against a below par
FDFC side.

The Whites started the game the
stronger of the two sides, and were quickly a goal up through a goal from
Hogan. A large number of chances were spurned by the Whites before Sellers
cracked in a goal from a tight angle to open his account for FDFC. Swift soon
topped this with a fine effort from outside of the box cannoning in off the
post. Hogan then added another, having sold dummies left, right and centre to
manoeuvre himself into a scoring position inside the box to make it 4-0 by

Despite the scoreline, it had been a
lacklustre performance by the Whites, with sloppiness in possession and
lacklustre finishing being masked by the goals scored.

In the second half, the Whites
appeared to raise their performance slightly, with Gregory, Sellers and Hogan
adding five more goals for the home side, with Sellers doubling his goal tally
for the Whites in the space of an hour and Gregory curling in a left footed
shot from the outside of the box. Yes, it was left footed, and yes, it went in!

A number of late substitutions were made which took the
impetus away from the Whites and allowed Ashtead to chip in a consolation goal
at the death, which they deserved, having come close with three or four other
chances during the second half.

Despite the comprehensive scoreline of
9-1, the Whites were flattered somewhat and can consider themselves lucky to
have conceded only one goal. All credit to Ashtead for never entirely giving up
and for getting the late consolation goal.

The man of the match award went to
Hogan, who was at the heart of many of the Whites best moments during the match
and his desire as in sharp contrast to some of his team-mates.
