On Sunday April 19th, the ladies fought back from 0-3 down to defeat Hampton and reach the Quarter Finals of the Russell Cup. Camilla Willis bagged four and Victoria Wenman scored too.

Match report from FDFC Ladies Manager Ryan Pendley:

The sun was shining; defiantly the weather was on our side. We arrived early at the ground to warm up as we were facing a team two division above us.

We started off the game, we played really well, all of a sudden two goals had been scored within 20 minutes, I got up to change my defence and wingers, which seemed to change the whole game. Just before half time the score line was not looking in our favour with Camilla missing shots on target, which gave Camilla the boost to score a perfect goal before the whistle blew.

During half time we had felt we had let ourselves down, but knowing the Fulham ladies nothing was going to deter them away from winning a cup match, it was time to boost confidence again.

The second half was an exciting match, at last the ladies had woken up and found their tempo with Victoria’s lob assisted by Camilla, we needed one more goal with 10 minutes remaining, sweat dripping from my forehead as this was so important to me and the girls, this is what we worked for and I knew the girls could do it, then… I subbed Premi with Ashley and the game continued to flow with new fresh blood on the pitch, which motivated Camilla to score another blinding goal within a minute of Ashley coming on the pitch.

YES!!!! We had made it into extra time just what we needed to keep this flow going, the girls were so worn out quickly running to the bench to grab their drinks as the heat was taking its toll.

At the start of the first 15 minutes of extra time, Esther kicked a long ball over the opposition’s defence Camilla ran like the wind and scored another blinding goal, this was turning into a real battle to keep us one goal up.

Half time in extra time, the poor girls are really worn out but showed so much passion to win this game comfortably,

Second half of extra time, the battle continued until Camilla scored again to take us comfortably through to the quarterfinal. I am so proud of what the girls achieved I have never seen so much passion to win the game in the whole of my football career.
