Real Holmesdale FC v Fulham DFC

FDFC took on Real Holmesdale in South
East Croydon for a vital league match without the team’s captain, who was
forced to miss the game for his brother’s stag weekend in Budapest. After
discussion with his right hand man Martin ‘Mad Max’ Willis and the team vice
captain, Ben Lampert, the Gaffer picked a strong side to gain the full three
points needed.

Kemp came back into goal, behind a
back four of Lampert, Hogan, Harding and Monksfield, along with four
midfielders: Wylde, Sellers, Gregory and Swift. Bovino and Manoochehri were
selected to play upfront.

The match did not start well for the
Whites, having conceded a goal from a corner headed home by the Real Holmesdale
captain after only 5 minutes of the game gone. The Whites took control after
the early set back, with Manoochehri having three opportunities to open his
goal account in a ten minute spell, firing wide after being put through one on
one, then hitting a shot over the bar and seeing his third chance, a fierce
shot, saved well by the Real Holmesdale ‘keeper. Soon after, the Whites won a penalty decision after Swift’s
cross was handled by a Real Holmesdale player in the box. Lampert scored from
the spot without any trouble to make it 1-1.

At half time, the Gaffer urged the
players to keep up the tempo and not to concede any fouls inside the Whites’

The Whites continued to be on top,
with Manoochehri, Bovino, Swift and Wylde seeing chances go unconverted, either
through firing off-target or having their chances well-saved. Real Holmesdale
then took the lead against the run of play when a free-kick was played across
the penalty area and the right winger eluded Lampert to firmly head the ball

Normal service resumed straight after
the setback, with Mancoohehiri bursing through and firing in a low shot to make
the game 2-2. Soon after, one of the Real Holmesdale players was sent off for
dissent reducing the opposition to ten men. However, the Whites failed to take
advantage of their opportunity, with Bovino failing to convert a chance from
six yards out after Manoochehri had laid on the cross for him. More
disappointment was to come as Manoochehri had a penalty turned down, despite being
heavily body-checked in the penalty area.
The game then ended 2-2 soon afterwards.

The Man of the Match award went to
Hogan for his superb guidance of the back four throughout the game. The Gaffer
thought that both Hogan and Harding played very well together in defence.
